Tips For Keeping A New Shower Door Clean

Are you planning to have a new shower door installed to make your bathroom more modern? If so, know that shower doors take more care than shower curtains when it comes to keeping them clean. Soap scum buildup is common to have on the door, which is why it helps to know how to remove it.
Vinegar and Baking Soda
You can make a cleaning solution out of some basic ingredients you have around your home. Start by gathering some baking soda, vinegar, and a small bucket to put it all in. Combine 2 parts baking soda with 1 part vinegar. These substances will react to each other and create bubbles. The mixture is safe if you were to touch it or breath it in, so there is no need to be concerned.
Once the reaction settles down, look at the mixture's overall consistency. It should be a paste that is thick and spreadable. If the mixtures has become too thick, you can add a small amount of vinegar to the solution to fix it.
Dip a scrub brush into the solution, and use it to coat the mixture onto your shower door's interior. Let is sit for several minutes before wiping it down with a clean sponge. If you have a detachable shower head, you can also use that to rinse off the shower door. Use a paper towel to dry the surface, which will prevent water spots from appearing.
You'll need to do this about once every two weeks to keep the surface clean.
Water Repellent
Your local auto parts shop will sell a water repellent designed for a car's windshield, and it actually does a great job at preventing water from sticking to your glass shower door. The repellent comes in several forms, but they all produce the same result.
Make sure you follow all directions on the packaging to ensure it is installed properly on the glass. It will require application, letting the product dry, and then applying a second coat. Once the repellent has dried, wipe off the surface with water or a cloth.
When the product is applied, you'll notice that the water beads up and roll right off the glass. If the moisture cannot stick to the glass, it will not give soap scum a chance to form.
